The VR4Empathy project’s 1st National Engagement Event took place in Athens on 6th December 2024, bringing together 108 educators, including principals, teachers, and consultants, both in-person and online. Organised by the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP), the event aimed to familiarise the educational community with the objectives and achievements of the VR4Empathy initiative.
The programme featured key presentations, including an overview of the project’s scope and partners, insights from the University of Patras (UoP) on their role, and findings from the literature review on using VR in teaching. Additionally, international best practices in VR for education were shared, alongside research results on the needs and expectations of teachers and students regarding VR.

The event generated significant interest among participants, many of whom expressed a strong desire to incorporate VR-based tools into their classrooms. Engaged educators actively participated in discussions, posing thoughtful questions and indicating their interest in future collaboration and involvement in the next stages of the project.
Looking ahead, the VR4Empathy project will continue to expand, inviting more schools to take part and encouraging greater collaboration between educators and researchers. The next phase will involve further implementation of VR in classrooms, with a focus on fostering empathy and enhancing student motivation.
This event marked a pivotal moment for the project, setting the stage for a future where VR can reshape how empathy and learning are approached in education. The project continues to receive support from the European Union, ensuring the ongoing development and success of these innovative teaching practices.
