Hosted by the University of the Peloponnese in Korinthos, Greece, the VR4Empathy train-the-trainers course took place from 10 to 24 September 2025 as a 5-day blended programme, with online sessions on 10 and 24 September and face-to-face training on 16–18 September. The course brought together 15 staff members from 6 consortium organisations and was designed to strengthen national capacity for the educational use of virtual reality to foster empathy, inclusion and meaningful learning.

The training combined theory, pedagogy and practical application to give participants a well-rounded understanding of the VR4Empathy approach. It explored cognitive empathy, the project’s educational foundations and the potential of virtual reality in inclusive education, before moving on to the analysis of the project’s finalised VR lesson plans and their adaptation to different national contexts. Participants also examined curriculum alignment, classroom feasibility, evaluation tools and ethical considerations, while addressing practical aspects of school implementation, including headset use, storage, charging, hygiene and classroom management. The programme also introduced the Quality Assurance Framework as a tool to support planning, reflection and peer feedback in educational settings.

The training produced concrete results for the next phase of the project. Participants strengthened their ability to use VR equipment confidently, adapt empathy-focused lesson plans to national contexts, and prepare realistic classroom integration models. They also engaged with the framework and evaluation tools that will support consistent and responsible implementation. The next step is the national Train-the-Teachers phase in Greece, Portugal and Slovenia, where participants will act as multipliers, deliver adapted training for teachers, support pilot use in upper secondary education, and contribute evidence and feedback for national and cross-national reporting.
